Lived experience of prostate cancer
About this Event
On average, one in eight persons born male will develop prostate cancer in the course of their lifetime. For persons born male of Black African or African Caribbean heritage, the rate doubles to one in four. Having a brother or father with the disease makes the person 2.5 times more likely to develop the disease and the likelihood also goes up if their mother or sister has had breast cancer, especially before the age of sixty. This means that over 50,000 people are diagnosed each year in the UK and there are more than 500,000 living with or beyond prostate cancer. However, these are not the only ones affected by the disease
Every patient has a context and, while he has the disease in his body, important figures in that context have it in their lives.
This free one-day conference brings together a range of people to share their lived experience of prostate cancer, whether as patient, partner or child of a patient, clinician, supporter or otherwise.
Join us 9:30am to 3:30pm on 14 January 2026 in Chancellor’s Hall, University of Wolverhampton, Wulfruna Building, City Campus.
