#DWCF26 Book Club Selection: YESTERYEAR by Caro Claire Burke
Shelly Smith is an Ypsilanti, Michigan-based comedian with over 20 years of experience. Her truly unique and hilarious comedy voice is full of quirk, whimsy, and delightful absurdity. She’s originally from South Carolina and is equal parts ADHD and pothead. She has a great podcast called ‘Reads and Weeds’ where she and her guests smoke W**d and read books. She’s also the longtime host of ‘50 First Jokes Ann Arbor.’ Shelly has performed at Don’t Tell Detroit, Traverse City Comedy Fest, Gilda’s Laugh Fest, Detroit Women of Comedy Fest, and Electric Forrest. She also ran a comedy show at the W**d dispensary ‘Om of Medicine’ for 10 years - Re: Pothead. Her latest creative endeavor is ON HOLD, a one-woman musical sketch comedy show about the infuriating trappings of modern technology.
Claire Ewing Forster is an Ann Arbor townie currently residing on Detroit's East Side. From a solid foundation in youth theater at the Children's Creative Center, she returned to the stage as a poet in high school and college. She was the 2005 Ann Arbor Youth Poetry Slam Champion, competed at Brave New Voices, and went on to be President of the U-Club Poetry Slam at the University of Michigan, where she graduated with a double concentration in Creative Writing and Linguistic Anthropology. An avid traveler, Claire worked for the YMCA of Spain and studied abroad at the American University in Cairo, where she eventually completed her MA in Sociology-Anthropology in 2018. Returning to Michigan, Claire sharpened her bartending knowledge at The Last Word, and developed the beverage programs at Grange Kitchen & Bar and Ann Arbor Distilling Company before turning to full-time work as an operational accountant. Claire volunteers for community events and gardening in her neighborhood and invites everyone to enjoy the Manistique Arts Alley, a.k.a. The Passage to Wellbeing!
