Michael Prusinsky is a celebrated vocalist and saxophonist with a career in live music and music education spanning 30+ years. Michael’s soulful energy reaches his audience with a positive and warm vibe. Despite having performed with such seasoned artists over the years as Kostia Efimov, Lyle Mays, Seals & Croft, Charlie Daniels, Gabriel Sanchez and the Prince Experience, Project Pink, just to name a few, Michael remains true to his rural roots and claims that his 25 years teaching music to young people brings him the most joy of his career. Michael’s teaching career allowed him to combine his love of music & people by inspiring young people to put in the work it takes to travel for competition and experience the world beyond their usual walls. Michael led his choir and band students to perform in New York City, Washington D.C., New Orleans, Florida and beyond. When COVID turned the world upside down, Michael and his entourage of revolving freelance musicians, playing by the now well known name of Safe Sax were among the first musicians in the country to perform an at-home concert series to share music with the masses. Michael finds joy sharing the spotlight with other musicians and mentoring new talent in the music industry.
Michael grew up in Crivitz, Wisconsin, the youngest of 8 siblings. Michael was drawn to music at an early age, having been influenced by musical roots and a sister, Cheryl, who played the guitar and sang at home and on stage often. With the support of his parents Michael started playing the saxophone in fifth grade. Over 30 plus years he has honed his art to master multiple horn instruments, percussion and lead vocals.
Michael’s musical gifts were noticed early on, as he could play by ear most anything he heard on his saxophone without the need for sheet music. Michael’s saxophone prowess attracted the attention of the members of the popular 80’s cover band, Daze Revue, at the age of 15 and he spent many of his formative years playing at music festivals, taverns, weddings and community events while traveling Wisconsin & Michigan.
Retiring from teaching in 2021 has allowed Michael to concentrate on writing music and collaborating with the freelance musicians he warmly refers to as his “dream team”. Michael and Safe Sax perform live numerous times a week, and travel extensively to spread their positive brand of music around the globe. Michael performs a variety of music genres, with a cast of talented musicians to be sure no performance is the same as the last. Michael enjoys catering their performances to the taste of the fans on any given night, while also infusing new arrangements in unexpected ways. He continues his quest to support varying genres of music with the Green Bay Jazz Orchestra and Marinette Community Jazz Orchestra. Michael resides just north of Green Bay, Wisconsin. He spends the winter months adventuring to warmer places with the love of his life, Teresa. Together Michael & Teresa enjoy sharing music & friendship in every new port-of-call along the way and they are always happy to return home to Wisconsin.
