The Bear Pickins Band started in 2017 with 5 members. Although they all had music in one form or the other through all their life, none really had group experience. Forming the band to play more for Jamming and Church on Sundays, the band started getting noticed and started getting more and more bookings. When Covid hit and due to some health issues, in 2020 two of the original members left the band.Dave (Guitar and Vocals) And Marilyn Rakes ( Mandolin and Lead Vocals) and Gary Lingruen (Cajon/Box Drum and Vocals) reorganized and took on new member Diane Hatch (Dobro) and moved Gary to (Bass Guitar and Vocals). Neither Diane or Gary had played either of these instruments before. So this gave the band a huge challenge. Not wanting to give up the Love for music, the band used the down time from covid to practice and help each other learn and build The Bear Pickins Band back.
They were proud to announce within their first year they released their first CD, BACK TO MY MOUNTAIN HOME. On March 28,2023 they hit the studio again and recorded their first gospel CD, WE PICK GOD.
Although they may be a little shy on the fancy picking and full blown harmonies, Their band is a mixture of Bluegrass,Country,Gospel, and Folk music.
They have been labeled by Fans as a smooth, well dressed, entertaining group that works hard and are growing experience at a rapid pace, and show their love for performing each time they walk on stage. A fan once said she could feel the band's music.
With the Love of entertaining that comes from this group, this might be a budding flower worth watching blossom.
