The Root Down Collective is a Raleigh-based jazz group founded on fun and engaging music from every era of the jazz tradition. Band leader and saxophonist Garret Hitmar blends the greater jazz tradition including hard bop, soul jazz, and more. In addition to Hitmar on sax, the band includes Brandon Shamar on piano, Chris Mills on bass, and Alston Harris on drums.
