AUDITION NOTICE – LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS (2026)Southside Theatre Guild invites you to audition for our upcoming production.
This is a volunteer-based, non-professional, non-union opportunity.
All roles are unpaid, as STG is an all-volunteer theatre.

Some plants are better left unfed… A gleefully twisted musical comedy about love, ambition, and the price of feeding your darkest desires, Little Shop of Horrors is a cult classic bursting with sharp humor and a killer soundtrack.
On Skid Row, meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn discovers a strange and exotic plant after a mysterious solar eclipse. He names it “Audrey II” after his co-worker and crush—but soon learns the plant has a taste for blood. As Audrey II grows, so does Seymour’s fame, bringing fortune to the struggling flower shop. But the plant’s appetite becomes insatiable—and deadly.
With a doo-wop and Motown-inspired score by the legendary team of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman, this sci-fi horror-comedy blends campy thrills with genuine heart and biting satire. It’s outrageous, unforgettable, and a little… well, carnivorous.

Video Auditions:
Video Audition Requirements
Video submissions should include the following:
(1) Uptempo Song (16–32 bars | approx. 30 seconds–1½ minutes)
(1) Ballad (16–32 bars | approx. 30 seconds–1½ minutes)
(1) Prepared Monologue (approximately 1 minute)
Please also include a brief slate at the beginning of your video stating your name and the role(s) you are interested in.
Submission Instructions
The easiest way to submit your audition is to upload your video to YouTube (or a similar platform) and email us the link.
If you prefer to use Dropbox or another file-sharing service, that’s perfectly fine—just make sure your file is set to “viewable” so we can access it without needing special permission.

Auditions will consist of:
* Singing: Please prepare 16–32 bars (Approx. 30 seconds to 1½ minutes) of a song in the style of the show (not from Little Shop). Motown standards, 60s girl-group songs, or contemporary soul/rock ballads work well. Bring a backing track (no vocals, other than backing). Music sources will be provided.
* Movement: A short choreography segment; wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
* Readings: Selected scenes from the script.
Headshots/Resumes: Either upload your headshot/resume into the application or please bring a resume and headshot when you attend auditions. Clear, accurate digital photos (similar to a headshot) are acceptable in place of professional headshots.

* Actors must be available for all rehearsals/performances, July 19–August 2, 2026.
* Strong vocals and ensemble chemistry are essential.
* No roles have been precast.
* This is a volunteer-based, non-union production; all roles are unpaid.
* Content advisory: cartoonish violence, abusive relationship themes, suggestive humor, and language that may be deemed as offensive to some.
* Projection and enunciation are paramount since microphones are NOT used in our space.
REHEARSALS
Begin: Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 10:30 AM
Schedule: Typically Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 7:00–9:30 PM, with additional rehearsals closer to opening.
NOTE: Not all actors will be called to all rehearsals.
PERFORMANCES
Run time: approx. 2 hours (plus intermission).

CHARACTERS
Casting Range: Older Teens, Young Adults, and Adults, approx. ages 15–up; all ethnicities.
Inclusivity: While the character descriptions below use binary pronouns, we welcome and strongly encourage gender non-conforming, genderqueer, transgender, and non-binary actors to audition and indicate the roles with which they most identify. Performers of all gender identities are encouraged to audition. Unless otherwise noted, all roles are open to performers of all races and ethnicities. In accordance with our licensing agreement, Little Shop of Horrors will be cast with the characters’ genders remaining as written in the script, and we look forward to inclusive and thoughtful casting within those parameters.
Seymour Krelborn
Male-presenting, 20s–30s. A meek, insecure, put-upon florist’s clerk with big dreams and little confidence. Though physically clumsy, he is mentally sharp, kindhearted, and yearning for love and acceptance. He should never be played as a caricature | Vocal range: A2–G4
Audrey
Female-presenting, 20s–30s. A sweet but vulnerable woman trapped in an abusive relationship. Despite her low self-worth, she secretly dreams of beauty, comfort, and a better life. A mix of glamour and fragility, with genuine warmth and humor beneath the surface | Vocal range: G♯3–D5
Mr. Mushnik
Male-presenting, 40s–60s. Seymour and Audrey’s boss and a failing East Side florist. Grumpy, sweaty, and desperate, with a middle-class New York feel. Self-appointed parental figure to Seymour, often manipulative but ultimately survival-driven | Vocal range: G2–F4
Orin Scrivello, D.D.S.
Male-presenting, 20s–40s. A handsome, sadistic dentist and Audrey’s abusive boyfriend. Charismatic, narcissistic, and darkly comic; part greaser swagger, part salesman’s charm. The actor also plays cameo roles (radio announcer, agents, customer, etc.) | Vocal range: G2–G4
Voice of Audrey II
Any gender, 20s–50s. A powerhouse, soulful, funky, street-smart villain with the swagger of an R&B icon. Think Tina Turner, Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan, Otis Redding, or Barry White. Should convey groove, humor, and menace | Vocal range: G2–G4
Crystal, Ronnette, & Chiffon (The Urchins)
Female-presenting, teens–30s. Proud, stylish, and witty young women of the neighborhood who act as both Greek Chorus and participants in the action. They see the world with humor, hope, and realism. Strong belters with tight harmonies, plenty of sass, and direct audience connection | Vocal range (each): A♭3–F5
Ensemble / Cameos
Ages 15–70. The lively inhabitants of Skid Row — customers, radio hosts, agents, winos, and more. Expressive, grounded performers with versatility, humor, and the ability to play multiple roles | Vocal range: G2–E5
