Literature in Translation Book Group with Maritza

Discusses The Living and the Rest by José Eduardo Agualusa, translated by Daniel Hahn

Led by Greenlight bookseller Maritza, our Literature in Translation Book Group meets monthly to discuss books from around the world, with a particular focus on marginalized voices and indie presses.

For October, the group discusses The Living and the Rest, the Portuguese PEN Prize-winning novel by Angolan author Jose Eduardo Agualusa, translated from the Portuguese by Daniel Hahn. A thrilling tale that considers how the mind bends when the known world ends in a storm’s flash, The Living and the Rest follows a a group of writers stranded at a literary festival that turns increasingly ominous as it explores the nature of life and of time, and the extraordinary power of imagination and the written word.
