Kelsyn Rooks brings Kansas City's favorite curated listening show, Listyn KC, as a fundraiser for the Center For Recorded Music at our home in Leawood, The Listyning Room.
Kelsyn will showcase new releases, revisit old favorite Listyn KC shows, or take you on deep dives into the C4RM record vaults. Listen to curated selections of music and fun facts related to the featured album. Then enjoy the entire album played on our world-class stereo systems! Doors open at 6:00 pm.
What better way to kick off 2025 than with a milestone in record album history. 2025 marks 70 years since the release of In The Wee Small Hours, widely regarded as the first popular music concept album. Frank Sinatra fought with Capitol to make a full album of music following a theme, as opposed to a few hit singles with extra songs thrown in.
The album's songs deal with themes of introspection, melancholy, lost love, failed relationships, depression and night life. The cover artwork reflects the themes, portraying Sinatra alone at night on an eerie and deserted city street awash in velvet street lights.
It is only fitting that for this special "first" we will be playing a first pressing from Capitol.
We'll kick off this milestone musical anniversary with a lead up featuring Frank Sinatra, his early works, influences, and newer artists who pay tribute to Ol' Blue Eyes.
$25 Donations for this event go to support Center For Recorded Music 501(c)(3) and our mission and includes admission to The Listyning Room and complimentary beverages and light snacks. Beverage selection includes soft drinks, flavored waters, beer, wine, mixed drinks, and NA versions of your favorites.
There are 40 seats at The Listyning Room and seating is on a first-come first-seated basis. Due to the popularity of Listyn KC events, we expect a full house. Donate in advance to secure a spot for these exclusive events. If any spots are left open, donations will be accepted at the door. This page will be updated to indicate if all reservations are taken.
