During their listening session, Stas Shärifulla and Ziliä Qansurá will present traditional songs dedicated to birds, belonging to the musical culture of the Bashqorts, a Turkic Indigenous people of North Asia.
'Qosh yulı' translates as “the Path of Birds” (a Bashqort name for the galaxy also known as the Milky Way), and it is believed to be formed from crane feathers left along the path for birds that fall behind the main flock, too weak or too young, so that they do not lose their way. Since birds were considered to be earthly incarnations of ancestral spirits, it is no wonder that so many traditional songs are dedicated to them. And even if, for some, these songs may seem like nothing more than beautiful, exotic feathers, they were left here for a reason, and their purpose is quite clear: to ensure that younger generations do not lose their way.
This listening session will be audio-recorded and made available for streaming via Refuge Radio.
