Linville Gorge is a taste of true wilderness - a remote and rugged gorge with steep walls, lots of social trails, and few trail blazes. But if you ask us, this is one of the most beautiful parts of the state! This 3-day backpacking in the "Grand Canyon of the East" will reward hikers' hard work with sweeping views of the Piedmont to the east, the Black Mountains to the west, and Lake James to the south. Participants should have a high level of fitness and some previous backpacking experience. Despite the low mileage (20 miles with 5,700ft of elevation gain), this trip will challenge even experienced backpackers.
