The musical depicts the historically significant African American community of Linnentown in Athens, Georgia, that was removed in the 1960s as part of an urban renewal project.Based on the memoir Giving Voice to Linnentown, this captivating production offers a unique opportunity to see into the past and witness the full richness of the Linnentown community. Audiences will get to know the residents of Linnentown as they support each other as a community, search for love and connection, and grapple with overwhelming odds.
The story of Linnentown is both uniquely Athenian and representative of communities across America. Based entirely on actual events, Linnentown – The Musical is an artistic tribute to these families, their stories, struggles, and triumphs.
