Flax Workshop with Marja Almqvist as part of RCAF 2026
About this Event

Linen in the Liberties invite you to spend a morning with us where we will share our passion for all things flax. This fibre, which has been so important in Ireland’s textile history, is now enjoying a grass roots revival as people are searching for pathways to a more sustainable future. In this workshop we will talk about the history, demonstrate spinning with flax and you will have the opportunity to contribute to a national project that aims to make a piece of twine stretching from Malin to Mizzen.

MarjaMarja Almqvist is a community-based textile artist and teacher. Her collaborative textile projects include The 77 Women Quilt and Suffragette Hat Stories. She is a founding member of The Liberties Weavers and the all Ireland Golden Thread group. During the Covid pandemic, she and members of The Liberties Weavers, began collaborating with Flanagan's Field Community Garden to learn about cultivating and processing flax.
