Line of Fire: The interconnected nature of biodiversity loss and national security
The rapid rate of biodiversity loss poses one of the greatest challenges to our national security in the 21st century. Environmental degradation and ecological collapse threaten water security, food security, global health and peace and stability around the world, yet little is being done to halt and reverse the decline. This research examines the extent to which biodiversity loss is embedded in national security agendas and explores the key obstacles preventing progress from being made.
About the Speaker:
Tomos Land is a graduate student in the political science department at SFU. His MA thesis focuses on biodiversity loss and national security. He is currently working on a research project studying biodiversity legislation in Canada and the United Kingdom with Dr. Hira and works as an analyst for Lithium Americas Corp.
