Penrith Parish Centre, CA11 7XX | Penrith, EN
Lindy Hop is a fun and playful dance with African American roots, which originated in the dance halls of Harlem, New York and evolved with the jazz music of the time.
You don't need a partner as we encourage everyone to rotate during the lessons. We do need to balance leader/ follower roles, so you need to decide which role you'd like to try when you book.
Traditionally men were the leaders and women the followers. Today, we encourage everyone to try either role, so pick which role you think you'd most enjoy. If you are coming with a friend/partner, it's good to learn opposite roles so you can dance together at home, or on a night out!
We'll cover the basic footwork rhythms, lead and follow techniques and simple moves to give you confidence to dance to swinging jazz tunes from the 1920s-1940s.
2-4pm: Lindy Hop workshop
4-6pm: Social dancing, tea and cake
