About this Event

Experience our new guided tour that provides insight into the history and meaning of the statuary on the Lincoln Tomb's upper level. The tour includes a brief history of the monument's design and construction, and interpretation of the statuary on the upper level. During the summer, this tour will be offered as part of History Comes Alive's "Freedom Night" program.

Additionally, a free musical performance will be held on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 pm, through August 5. Enjoy the music before or after your tour.

This tour is recommended for older youth and adults with an interest in Abraham Lincoln/Civil War history, and those interested in learning about the symbolism of the statuary on the upper level of the tomb.

This tour is free and open to the public; reseservations are suggested. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Important Notes:

  1. The program will begin on the ground level. Meet your guide by the Borglum bust of Lincoln on the plaza in front of the tomb.
  2. This is an interpreter-led, guided tour. The upper level of the Lincoln Tomb will be open only during the portion of the tour that discusses the upper level statuary. Guests will be led back to the ground level at the conclusion of the tour.
  3. Guests must stay with their guide during the tour.
  4. Stairs are required to reach the upper level of the Lincoln Tomb. For those unable to climb the stairs, a presentation of the statuary history and interpretation will be available in the rotunda of the Lincoln Tomb.
  5. Handheld cameras are welcome; drone photography is not permitted.

Parking

A free parking lot is available just to the west of the Lincoln Tomb, near the former caretaker's residence.
