Donghwi Kim
Seoul, South Korea
Violinist Donghwi Kim is a graduate of Yewon School, Seoul Arts High School, and the University of Seoul. He completed his Master's program in Chamber Music at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München (Munich).
A prize-winning chamber musician, he took 1st Prize at the Prague Spring International Music Festival Competition (String Quartet) along with Special Prizes in 6 categories, and received a Special Prize at the ARD International Music Competition (String Quartet) in Germany. He was also awarded the Best Performance Prize for Commissioned Work at the Premio Paolo Borciani International Competition (String Quartet) in Italy, as well as a Special Prize with the Jeunesses Musicales Germany Scholarship.
He has performed in the Kumho Art Hall Young Chamber Concert and Rising Stars Series, and has been featured on KBS Music Studio Salon de Musique and Summer Music School: Mozart in the Drawing Room. Internationally, he has been invited to the Prague Spring Festival, Mozartfest Würzburg, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, and Ravenna Festival. In Korea, he has appeared at the Seoul Arts Center Summer Music Festival, Lotte Concert Hall Classic Revolution, Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, Changwon International Chamber Music Festival, Gangneung Arts Festival, and many more. As a soloist, he has performed with the St. Petersburg Maly Hall, Seoul Sinfonietta, and the Korea Armed Forces Symphony Orchestra, among others.
He has served as guest concertmaster of the Compassion Orchestra, Heyri Pan Festival Orchestra, and Ars Ensemble, and as concertmaster of the University of Seoul Orchestra and Korea Armed Forces Symphony Orchestra. He was formerly a violinist with the Arete Quartet. Currently, Donghwi serves as Concertmaster of SOP Ensemble.
