About this Event

LIFE SCULPTING: Choose 2, 3 or 4 Hours

Take life drawing into three dimensions in this relaxed, body-positive clay sculpting workshop at the ClayLife studio in Ancoats.

Everyone begins together, working from the same live nude model and pose. Book our classic two-hour session or choose to stay longer, giving yourself more time to develop, refine and add detail to your sculpture.

Choose how long you’d like to sculpt:

  • 2 hours from £35: Work from the live model and create a figurative clay sculpture with step-by-step guidance.
  • 3 hours from £55: Stay for an additional hour with the live model, giving you more time to improve proportions, build detail and develop your sculpture.
  • 4 hours from £75: Spend three hours working from the live model, followed by a final refinement hour using reference photographs provided by ClayLife. Nina will continue offering guidance as you finish and refine your piece.

Choose how you’d like your sculpture finished:

  • Take home to air-dry: included: Take your sculpture home with you directly after the session.
  • Bisque fired: additional £10: We’ll kiln-fire your sculpture, creating a solid ceramic piece ready for collection from the ClayLife studio.
  • Glazed and fired: additional £20: Choose from our selection of colourful glazes and we’ll glaze and fire your sculpture, ready for collection once finished.

Not sure?....

We use a high quality air dry clay, that can either be fired or used as air drying clay. You can choose your desired finish on the day!

All ticket holders begin at the same time. Select your preferred duration when booking, or choose to stay for additional time on the day for £20 per extra studio hour. Cash and contactless payments are accepted.

No previous sculpting experience is needed. Figurative ceramicist Nina will guide you through the process, from building the basic form and proportions to refining the anatomy, surface and final details. The model will take regular breaks throughout the session.

Our Life Sculpting workshops celebrate the human body in all its wonderful diversity. Each session features a different model and provides a welcoming, respectful and creative environment in which to explore the human form.

All clay, tools and materials are provided. Come on your own, bring a friend or make it a creative date. You’re welcome to bring your own drinks and snacks, or purchase coffee or tea from the hot-drinks machine outside the studio.

Cant find a date that suits you? contact us directly at [email protected] to organise a private booking for groups of 4-16.

How the event runs:

15 minutes before start: people start to arrive and settle in, during this time you can make yourself a hot drink etc.

every 20 minutes: The model will take a break and when they return, they will rotate the same pose by 90 degrees so that everyone in the room can see the model from every angle.

10 minutes before the end: The session is coming to an end, Nina encourages everyone to now stand up and look at each others work. A wonderful moment for people to discuss the work and the diverse outcome of everyone’s individual pieces of art.
