About this Event

Course Overview

Our 10-week Life Drawing course is open to anyone aged 16 and over who would like to explore drawing the human figure from life.

Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced artist looking to strengthen your practice, the course offers a welcoming and supportive environment in which to build confidence, develop technical skills and explore your own artistic approach.

Across the ten weeks, you will study proportion, anatomy, gesture, movement, tone, foreshortening, composition and expressive mark-making. The longer format allows time to revisit key ideas, practise regularly and develop your work in greater depth.

Teaching Approach

Each week, you will work from a live model through a varied programme of short, medium and sustained poses. Different models, themes and drawing exercises will encourage you to observe more carefully, experiment with new approaches and expand your creative confidence.

The course will combine demonstrations, structured exercises and longer independent studies. Personalised feedback and practical guidance will help you improve both your technical understanding and your ability to create drawings with character, movement and expression.

What You Will Learn

By the end of the 10-week course, you will:

  • develop a stronger understanding of human anatomy, proportion and movement;
  • improve your ability to capture gesture, weight and dynamic poses;
  • use line, tone and mark-making to describe form and expression;
  • experiment with a range of drawing materials and techniques;
  • build confidence when drawing directly from a live model;
  • develop a more individual and consistent artistic approach;
  • produce a selection of work suitable for display in a group exhibition.

Materials and Resources

Easels and drawing boards are provided.

Please bring your preferred paper, ideally A3 size or larger, together with your chosen drawing materials. Suitable options include pencils, charcoal, graphite, coloured pencils, Conté, ink or pastels.
