About this Event

Book launch: Life Beyond Human Boundaries: John Dupré’s Philosophy and the Interdisciplinary Study of the Life Sciences

Life Beyond Human Boundaries brings together essays from leading philosophers of science to both celebrate and critically assess the work of John Dupré. This open access book not only discusses the importance and the impact of John’s work on pluralism, biological classification, and processual thinking, but it also analyses his focus on and commitment to interdisciplinarity. At this book launch, we will focus on the latter aspect of John’s work, reflecting on how philosophy and the humanities matter to the natural sciences and vice versa.

We have the honour of welcoming Hasok Chang (Cambridge University) to Egenis to discuss John’s legacy and the importance of interdisciplinarity for research and education. Hasok’s talk will be followed by short comments from John himself and Sabina Leonelli (joining via Zoom), with time reserved at the end for an open discussion. The book launch will be followed by a small reception.
