Welcome to an afternoon concert of beautiful German and Norwegian music performed by pianist Joachim Carr, mezzo-soprano Ingvild Schultze-Florey and bass-baritone Einar Stefánsson at the Norwegian Church in Berlin at 14:00 on 12th of January. The trio will present a varied programme of music by Edvard Grieg, Gustav Mahler, Carl Loewe, Richard Wagner, Felix Mendelssohn and Robert Schumann.
There are strong historical ties between Norway and Germany and the two countries maintain a close relationship to this day. Through the project, the performers wish to explore the links between the two countries and take an active part in the cultural exchange between them.
As part of the project, the same programme was given at Frogner hovedgård in Oslo in November 2024. The project has been granted generous support by the German Embassy in Oslo, Anders Sveaas’ Almennyttige Fond and the Willy Brandt Stiftung.

Willkommen zum Konzert mit dem Pianisten Joachim Carr, der Mezzosopranistin Ingvild Schultze-Florey, und dem Bassbariton Einar Stefánsson am Sonntag, 12. Januar um 14 Uhr in die Norwegische Kirche in Berlin. Das Trio wird Lieder und Duette von Edvard Grieg, Gustav Mahler, Carl Loewe, Richard Wagner, Felix Mendelssohn und Robert Schumann präsentieren.
Wir denken vielleicht nicht immer darüber nach, aber Norwegen und Deutschland waren historisch, und sind immer noch, nahe Nachbarländer, und die norwegische und deutsche Kultur haben enge Beziehungen miteinander. Durch die Musik werden wir diese Verbindungen erkunden, und die Geschichte von Edvard Grieg erzählen, der nach Deutschland zog um zu studieren, und alles, was er da gelernt hatte, mit nach Norwegen brachte. Ebenso die Geschichte von Carl Loewe, der Inspiration von Norwegischer Natur und Mythologie durch seine Musik klingen ließ.
Die drei Künstler*innen haben enge Verbindungen zu Norwegen und Deutschland, und mit diesem Konzertprojekt möchten sie zum kulturellen Austausch anregen. Das Konzertprogramm wurde bereits im November an der Frogner Hovedgård in Oslo aufgeführt. Das Projekt wird durch Anders Sveaas’ Almennyttige Fond, die Deutsche Botschaft in Oslo, und die Norwegisch-Deutsche Willy-Brandt-Stiftung unterstützt und gefördert.

About the performers:
Pianist Joachim Carr won the 1st Prize, Audience Prize and Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra’s Prize in the 14th international Grieg Competition in 2014, and was already the following year awarded the esteemed Robert Levin Prize for his debut concert at the Universitetets Aula in Oslo.
Carr has performed at Bergen International Festival, Oslo Chamber Music Festival, Lofoten Piano Festival, Rosendal Chamber Music Festival, Klavierfestival Ruhr, Gstaad Menuhin Festival, Salzburger Chamber Music Festival and many more. As a soloist he has also performed with Kungliga Filharmonikerna Stockholm, Trondheim Symfoniorkester, Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester, Kringkastingsorkestret and Lithuania’s state Symphony Orchestra. At the closing concert of the Bergen International Festival in 2017, he had the honour of performing the Grieg Concerto with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra under John Storgårds.
For his debut album with works by Schumann, Brahms and Berg, he was praised in the French music magazine Diapason as one of the most promising pianists of his generation. His latest solo album with works by Bach, Liszt, Franck and Messiaen was released in the summer of 2023.

Einar Stefánsson is a versatile Icelandic/Norwegian bass-baritone. Having studied at the Royal Northern College of Music in the UK, he is currently based in Oslo where he is continuing his training under the tutelage of Solveig Kringlebotn at the Opera School of the National Academy of the Arts. Einar has been a member of the Young Artist Programmes at Opera Holland Park, Buxton International Festival and Bergen National Opera. Along the core operatic repertoire, Einar has developed a particular interest in contemporary music and projects concerning social issues.
Recent highlights include the title role in the opera Don Pasquale, the roles of Papageno (Die Zauberflöte) and Fiorello (Il barbiere di Siviglia) and a lunchtime concert at the Oslo Opera House. Other operatic roles include the role of Lettmatros in the world premiere of the opera Kommandanten at Oscarsborgoperaen in Norway, the role of Frank in Die Fledermaus, Cimarosa’s opera Il maestro di cappella, Ein Hofcourier in the world premiere of the opera Die Alte Metode, the roles of Rudi/Nazi Officer/Kapo in the world premiere of The Path to Heaven, The Judge in The Orphans of Koombu and Blackmailer (cover) in Georgiana, both at Buxton International Festival, as well as the role of Brühlmann in Werther (Bergen National Opera).
Upcoming projects include the roles of Gremin (Eugene Onegin) and Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro) and a world premiere with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra.

Mezzo-Soprano Ingvild Schultze-Florey graduated with a Master of Music with Distinction from the Royal Northern College of Music on a full scholarship from the ABRSM. Schultze-Florey is a recipient of numerous prizes, among them the Alexander Young Prize for the Singing of Händel, Schubert and Mozart, and Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra’s De Unges Konsert Prize for outstanding young soloists. She is currently based in Germany.
Ingvild made her debut on the operatic stage singing Mercédès in Carmen for Bergen Nasjonale Opera, and on the concert stage as a soloist in Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra’s season closing concert of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony conducted by Edward Gardner. Further career highlights include the world premier of the chamber opera Nadja’s Song by Lucy Armstrong commissioned for Schultze-Florey by Bergen Nasjonale Opera, the title role in Purcell’s Dido&Aeneas, Sprite in Massenet’s Cendrillon, and Pinocchio in Jonathan Doves Pinocchio at RNCM and Hermia for British Youth Opera, 5. Dienerin in Strauss’ Elektra for Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Cherubino for Ensemble OrQuesta’s Le nozze di Figaro by Mozart. Ingvild is also active on the concert stage as a soloist in a number of pieces, among them; Dvorak’s Stabat Mater, Händel’s Messias, Mozart’s Messe i C-minor, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle and Vaughan Williams Serenade to Music.
