Be seen, be heard, listen deeply, be you. A safe space to share, listen and support each other through queer identity
About this Event

Monthly LGBTQIA+ talking circles held on a Saturday at 11am at The Old Bike Store in Worthing

These are small, intimate circles. The sessions are closed, you can't drop in, you need to pre-register.

Circles are modelled on the women's circle idea but for the LGBTQIA+ community. All genders, sex and all queer sexualities welcome. This is not a space for allies, they can support in other ways. You do not need to be out in your LGBTQIA+ identity to join, and you can join if you're exploring this identity and aren't yet sure how you identify.

Each month we come together and will share (if you wish, you can also just listen) on a particular topic that is relevant to our community. The topics will be broad and I will open with some reflections on the topic. This might be an article, a poem, or spoken word piece, designed to spark reflection. The circle is then opened for anyone to speak on it for a set amount of time. You speak from your own experience and do not speak for others. Everyone listens and doesn't interrupt, except for any clarifications. At the end others in the group can reflect back what they've heard the person say, but cannot offer advice (unless requested by the speaker), or build on what they have said. We thank each person for their contribution. Another person then speaks and can reflect on what they've heard or share something new from their experience.

What happens in the circle stays in the circle and you will be asked not to share anything that is said and you won't raise anything that anyone has said in circle with them outside the circle. It is a safe and confidential space. If anything is shared that is beyond the scope of the circle and better suited to therapy or counselling I will thank the person for their contribution and suggest that its better shared in a professional setting. If anyone shares something that indicates immediate danger to themselves or another, this is the only time I will break the rule and will need to involve relevant professional support. Circles are peer support, deep listening, reflection and an opportunity to be fully you, be fully seen, and heard. They can be deep and support healing and community connection. But they can't replace professional support if that is needed.
