AIRE and the CommUnity Zone have done several
Diversity Celebrations throughout the years.
Everyone is invited to gather on the grounds of St. John's United Church of Christ (1050 Buffalo Rd., Lewisburg, PA 17837) on Sunday, October 18, from 1:00–4:00 p.m. In honor of LGBTQ+ History Month and Global Diversity Month, we'll come together for a joyful celebration of the many identities, cultures, and experiences that make our community stronger.
Enjoy delicious international food trucks, browse local vendors and community organizations, experience music and poetry, and connect with neighbors by enjoying games and activities in a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere. Whether you're coming to learn, celebrate, make new friends, or simply enjoy a fun afternoon, there's something for everyone. In a world that can sometimes feel divided, coming together matters. Diversity Celebration is an opportunity to honor our differences, celebrate what we share, and create a space where everyone feels seen, valued, and welcomed. We believe that every person deserves the freedom to be their authentic self, and that our community is richer when everyone belongs.
St. John’s UCC in Lewisburg voted to be an ONA (Open and Affirming) congregation
more than 7 years ago. In the United Church of Christ, ONA is a designation for
congregations and other bodies in the UCC which make a public covenant of welcome
into their full life and ministry to persons of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and
gender expressions. This ONA commitment is often expanded as a reminder to a
commitment to welcoming all cultures, backgrounds, socio-economic statuses, abilities,
alongside of the original definition.
As part of the St. John’s commitment to ONA it’s our desire to both invite folks to the life
and ministry of the church AND to express welcome and support to our neighbors as
through community engagement and advocacy. For the last several years, members
have participated in Pride, Diversity and other community events to support and
encourage the beautiful diversity of all! Since there is no event scheduled in Lewisburg
this year, we are delighted to partner with other congregations (including St. Andrew’s
Episcopal Church and … ) and community organizations
This all-ages, all-inclusive event welcomes people of every background, identity, and walk of life. Come as you are, celebrate who you are, and let your true colors shine.
