A classic full-day ridge walk across the South Downs — from historic Lewes over three summits to the Iron Age fort of Mount Caburn, with big skies and far-reaching views.
🥾 THE WALK
23.6 km (14.6 mi) · 640 m ascent · Hard (7/10) · Circular · 6.5–7.5 hours
Starting and finishing in the historic town of Lewes, we'll follow three ridges of the South Downs, linking the pretty villages of Rodmell, Southease and Glynde. Expect wide chalk paths, three good climbs, the quiet River Ouse valley, and a final ascent to Mount Caburn — an Iron Age hillfort looking out over the entire circuit.

Departure: 9:45 AM
Back in London: approx. 7:30 PM

🎒 WHAT TO BRING
• Comfortable clothing and walking footwear (hiking boots if you have them)
• Waterproof jacket and trousers recommended
• Water — at least 1 litre, ideally 2
• A packed lunch for the picnic stop
• Some money for the pub afterwards (optional!)

Non-members: £12 (book 2 or more and save)

⚠️ Please note this is a long, hilly walk. A good level of fitness and some walking experience are recommended. If you're just starting out, try one of our shorter Easy or Moderate walks first.
🛡️ Our leaders are first-aid trained and we're a non-profit registered with the BMC (British Mountaineering Council). Dogs welcome, on a lead at all times.
