Level 2 Safeguarding at Licensed Premises
The Level 2 Safeguarding at Licensed Premises course is designed for individuals working in pubs, bars, clubs, hotels, restaurants, events and other licensed or hospitality environments.
Licensed premises can present unique safeguarding challenges. Staff may encounter customers who are vulnerable because of alcohol or drug use, harassment, unwanted attention, exploitation, intimidation or other circumstances that place them at risk. Knowing how to recognise concerns and respond appropriately can make a significant difference to someone’s safety.
This course provides learners with the knowledge and confidence to identify potential safeguarding concerns, understand their responsibilities and take appropriate action when someone may be at risk.
The course also introduces two important safeguarding initiatives used within licensed and hospitality settings: Ask for Angela and Ask for Clive. Learners will explore the purpose of each initiative, how customers may use them to seek help, and how staff should respond appropriately, discreetly and professionally.
What the course covers
Learners will develop an understanding of:
- What safeguarding means within a licensed premises
- The responsibilities of staff in protecting customers and colleagues
- How to recognise signs that someone may be vulnerable or at risk
- Different forms of abuse, harassment, exploitation and inappropriate behaviour
- The impact alcohol and drugs can have on vulnerability and decision-making
- Recognising situations involving unwanted attention, coercion or predatory behaviour
- Responding to safeguarding concerns appropriately
- When and how concerns should be reported or escalated
- Maintaining appropriate confidentiality and recording concerns
- The Ask for Angela initiative and how staff should respond when someone asks for Angela
- The Ask for Clive initiative and its role in challenging discrimination and helping people feel safe within licensed venues
- Creating a safer, more inclusive and supportive environment for customers and colleagues
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for anyone working within or supporting a licensed premises, including bar and waiting staff, door supervisors, security personnel, supervisors, managers, personal licence holders and hospitality employees.
Course aim
By the end of the course, learners should have a stronger understanding of safeguarding within licensed environments and be able to recognise potential concerns, respond appropriately, follow workplace procedures and support customers who may need assistance.
The course encourages a proactive safeguarding culture in which staff understand that keeping people safe is a shared responsibility and know how to act when something does not appear right.
