Here is a tour and sketching opportunity you won’t want to miss!Join us on Wednesday, November 12th 10:00 am - 1:00 pm to get a glimpse of the Grand Rapids Public Museum’s Archives (in a separate location than the current museum). We will have a brief tour of all the floors/areas and then be allowed to sketch in the impressive furniture and oddities area. The throw down will be at 12:45.
We are asked to limit our sketching materials to use on site to DRY MEDIA only. (Pencils, colored pencils, markers, etc.) We were asked not to use watercolor and paints using water.
The Community Archives and Research Center (CARC) is a research and storage facility which houses the Collections of the Grand Rapids Public Museum as well as the Grand Rapids City Archives and Record Center and many Kent County records.
The CARC is located at 223 Washington Street SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503
The CARC building is located in back of the ‘old’ museum on Jefferson Street. The Grand Rapids Public Museum (GRPM) is the oldest museum in Michigan founded in 1854. It is also the first museum in the nation to be accredited in 1971. Of all the hundreds of artifacts you see in the current museum at a given time, that is only about 5% of the museum’s collection. The other 95% is stored at CARC.
We will post a map of the area with suggested parking options.
Since the building(s) are so large and the building isn’t open to the public, it is buzzer entrance only and can’t accommodate late arrivals. Tours are by appointment only. We will gather at 10:00 and proceed. No late arrival access.
