Letting the paint lead: abstract expressionism & process painting workshop.
About this Event
This workshop is an introduction to abstract art and painting without a fixed idea or plan, run by artist Mike Halasa. Inspired by Abstract Expressionism and process painting, participants will explore how to create freely and intuitively using paint and palette knives.
The session will include a short introduction to abstract art, examples of abstract paintings, and insight into the artist’s own creative process and how they approach painting without a clear image in mind. Participants will then have time to freely play with colour combinations, textures, layering, and mark-making, discovering what materials and approaches work best for them in a relaxed and supportive environment. The focus of the session is on exploration, instinct, and process rather than creating a “perfect” final piece.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have created two 5x7” abstract canvas paintings that can either be finished pieces or a starting point to continue working on at home.
Bring an apron or clothes suitable for painting.
