Experimental brushes and handmade sketchbooks workshop
About this Event
In this workshop, run by artist Dave Page, participants will be guided through the process of making their own handmade brush using unconventional materials. Through a series of videos and examples, you will be shown how different brush heads can create different marks and textures, helping you decide which style of brush you would like to make and take home.
Once your brushes are complete, you will be given a beginner’s sketchbook-making toolkit and guided through the process of creating two sketchbooks, one folded sketchbook and one handbound sketchbook. You will be shown different styles of sketchbooks, examples of decorated covers, and sketchbooks used by the artist leading the workshop to collect inspiration, sketches, and ideas for future work. Participants will be encouraged to personalise their sketchbooks and make them their own.
By the end of the session, you will leave with:
- Your own handmade experimental brush
- Two handmade sketchbooks — one folded and one handbound
- A beginner sketchbook-making toolkit
- Practical skills in simple sketchbook-making techniques you can continue exploring at home.
No previous experience is needed, and all materials will be provided.
