St. Luke’s will host a special theatrical performance of Letter from a Birmingham Jail: What if Martin Were Still Alive on Thursday, October 22, at 7 p.m. The performance is free and open to the public, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. for light refreshments
Presented by the Buffalo-based Typography of Women, the production reimagines the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic 1963 "Letter from Birmingham Jail" through a conversation with a younger, 21st-century version of King confronting the challenges of our own time. Music, spirituals, dramatic readings, and commentary weave together King’s words from more than sixty years ago with questions of racial justice and the work that remains before us today.
The performance is sponsored by the WNY & NWPA Commission to Dismantle Racism and Discrimination and St. Luke’s Commission to Dismantle Racism and Discrimination. And is being offered the day before the Diocesan Convention begins. Please join with Episcopalians from around the diocese and community members for this compelling evening of theater, music, history, and reflection—and invite friends and neighbors from throughout the community to come as well.
