The City of Asheville is exploring ways to streamline the approval process for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs). ADUs offer a sustainable solution to increase housing density in existing neighborhoods, providing diverse housing options, supporting "aging in place," and offering economic benefits for homeowners.
While ADUs are permitted in all residential areas, current regulations for converting non-conforming structures (like sheds or garages) can make the development process challenging. We are seeking community input to identify opportunities for improvement and to help residents understand the current steps involved.
