Let's Talk About (In)Fertility!

Despite some taboo, infertility is not unusual – it impacts 1 in 6 couples worldwide. Infertility is the inability to conceive despite frequent and unprotected intercourse for at least a year (6 months if the female partner is aged 35+).

The factors behind couples’ infertility can be female, male, both or unexplained. Therefore, Dr Mahshid Nickkho-Amiry, consultant gynaecologist & fertility specialist, will discuss several factors impacting human fertility and will cover how fertility is assessed and treated in fertility clinics.
However, a limited number of IVF cycles lead to a successful pregnancy. Dr Stéphane Berneau, lecturer & research investigator in reproductive sciences, will share some theories behind why fertility treatments aren't becoming more successful and how his research on embryo implantation at the University of Central Lancashire is helping couples to build their families.

The talks will be followed by a Q&A session.

Either side of the main talks, you can experience an exhibition showcasing research and engage with local scientists.
