Let's Talk About Death and Dying: Understanding More About the Process of Death and Dying"Death smiles at us all; all we can do is smile back." - Marcus Aurelius
Death is an event that we all have to face one day — yet we hardly ever talk about it.
What is death when it comes to the body? What steps and processes are happening to us as we die? Much like giving birth, dying follows a certain protocol — and this is what we will talk about in our event. To be prepared, to better understand, and to help take away fear.
Join us for an evening of delicious soup and informative conversations all about dying.
This is a safe space to explore, ask questions, and learn together. Knowledge is power, and being prepared can help us all face death with greater understanding when it smiles at us.
Mounira, a funeral celebrant, and Mareike a death doula and photographer will be facilitating this discussion.
Our Ethos
These days, death often takes place in hospitals or hospices, away from everyday life. But we believe these conversations belong back where they started — in the heart of our communities.
Through open dialogue about death, grief, and funeral planning, we want to ease fear and instead foster an empowering, accepting approach — one that helps us live life more fully, while also feeling prepared for its natural end.
Event location
We will explore the topic together in a warm, safe and supportive environment. This in-person gathering open to everyone and will take place at The Bakehouse which is located in the little ally way next to Carlton Cinema at 21 St. Mildreds Rd, Westgate-on-Sea CT8 8RE (behind the Bake and Ale House).
Event plan
1. Mounira and Mareike will introduce their work and the topic
2. Facilitated discussion and demonstrations about the process of death and dying
3. A quiz about death and dying
This is a ticketed inclusive community event with tiered pricing for all budgets at £5 and £10. It is open to all. We have two free places set aside for those who would like to attend but currently face financial barriers. Please contact us directly if you wish to access these. The venue is wheelchair friendly; we will provide soup and cosy blankets.
See you there!
