About the Program Leaders
Sandra Berlin
I am a member and Elder of the White Earth Nation (northern MN)
Founder of Sweet Medicine, An Indigenous Healing Journey.
I am currently a Harm Reduction Advocate, for the City of Fargo, at the Resource and Recovery Center (formerly known as the Downtown Engagement Center) serving unsheltered and underserved community members.
Through many ups and downs, cultural art, talking circles, music, family and community has kept me grounded - in the F/M area, since 1999. I became grassroots organizer, advocate and voice in the community bringing about awareness and visibility to the challenges of many Indigenous community members.
I served as Co-Chair of the Justice Circle of Moorhead, organizing a community response to the Civil Rights Report Released in 2001, Equal Opportunities for Minorities, in Moorhead, MN. (winning an International Award for our work.) In 2007, I was asked by the Mayor of Fargo, to serve on the first Native American Commission for the City of Fargo.
I am an Advocate for Fargo/Moorhead Missing Murdered Indigenous Relatives Task Force, Sexual Assault and Human Trafficking, Silent Sisters and White Bison Wellbriety Recovery Coach, NDSU American Indian Public Health Community Advisory, and I serve as Elder in Residence, at the Indigenous Association, in Fargo, promoting community & cultural Health Healing, through the Arts.
In July 2025, Sweet Medicine was Registered with the state of ND and is currently working to become a Federal Nonprofit.
