A 90-Minute Community Conversation During Hunger & Homeless Awareness Week
About this Event

Understanding Poverty. Strengthening Our Community.

Why do people stay stuck in poverty—even when resources and opportunities are available?

Join us for a 90-minute Bridges Out of Poverty community session designed to help us better understand the realities of poverty and explore how individuals, organizations, businesses, and community partners can work differently to create pathways toward stability.

During the session, we'll explore:

  • How poverty affects the choices and opportunities available to individuals and families
  • The hidden barriers that can make it difficult to move from crisis to stability
  • How our assumptions about poverty can influence the way we serve and interact with others
  • Practical ways businesses, schools, nonprofits, housing providers, healthcare organizations, and community members can respond more effectively
  • How we can work together across organizations instead of addressing hunger, housing, employment, childcare, and other challenges in isolation

Why Come?

You don't have to work in social services to benefit.

If you hire people, educate people, house people, care for people, serve people, or simply care about our community, this conversation is for you.

This is an opportunity to step outside our individual organizations and look at poverty from a community perspective—and consider what each of us can do to make it easier for people to move from surviving to thriving.

Help Us Turn Awareness Into Action

In recognition of Hunger & Homeless Awareness Week, we're also holding a community food drive.

Bring a donation of nonperishable food items to the session and help local families and individuals experiencing food insecurity.

Learn. Connect. Give.

Spend 90 minutes building your understanding of poverty, connecting with others who care about our community, and taking one small action to help our neighbors experiencing hunger and housing instability.

Everyone is welcome.

This session is available thanks to the generous sponsorship of Sanford Health and United Way of Cass Clay!
