Voices will ring out in Clinton’s Zion Lutheran Church, 439 3rd Ave S, at 2:00pm on Sunday, April 19 as RiverChor presents their spring concert, “Let the River Run”. Admission is free, donations are welcome and appreciated.
“Welcome to a concert that honors the rich diversity of choral music, showcasing some of my favorite pieces from my years as an educator. I’m excited to embark on this journey through song with you,” stated director Karl Wolf.
Early American pieces open the concert, with Leo Smit’s “Lenten is Come”, “Jewett” from the Sacred Harp tradition, and Alice Parker’s arrangement of “Hark! I Hear the Harps Eternal”. Bach’s “Crucifixus” and Handel’s Coronation Anthem “Let Thy Hand Be Strengthened” will explore the Baroque era. The first half concludes with the French Romantic piece “Cantique de Jean Racine” by Fauré.
“Let the People Praise Thee” by Monhardt is a rousing introduction to the 20th Century music of the second half of the concert. Holst’s haunting “I Love My Love” and Zaninelli’s “The Water is Wide” show the choir’s softer side. Be ready to tap your toes along with spiritual “Little Innocent Lamb” arranged by Bartholomew, and “Finale from ‘The Gondoliers’” by Gilbert and Sullivan. Concluding the concert is the title piece, “Let the River Run” arranged by Craig Hella Johnson, featuring Tamara Siburg on djembe.
RiverChor Community Choir is made up of singers from Clinton, Morrison, Low Moor, Albany, Goose Lake, and Davenport. The director is Karl Wolf, the pianist/organist is Christine Holmer. Learn more about the choir and the music at https://RiverChor.org
