Exciting News! Let Freedom Ring on July 4th @ 2:50pm !
We have received word that the restoration of the belfy at the Stemtown Historical Society Museum is almost complete! That said, it has been decided that Stemtown will join in the National Bell Ringing for America 250 now scheduled for 2:50 pm on July 4th, 2026. A rededication of the belfry will be announced at a later date.
You can join in this national celebration by stopping by the museum to see our beautifully restored tower and watch and hear our bell ring once again (last toll was June 26, 2022 when the Calvary Church held their last service)* or join in at your homes and gatherings with your families and neighbors ringing any kind of bells with pride!
The official National Bell Festival coordinates this event with the ringing of the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia. Bells across the nation will be rung simultaneously 13 times; once for each of the original 13 colonies.
Suggestions for how long to ring them, and when in the different time zones etc. can be found at the National Bell Festival webpage. (it is written that participation is what is most important) : https://www.bells.org/blog/bell-ringing-guidelines-americas-250th
"Wherever you are, please take a short break to listen for bells ringing; pause for a moment to appreciate our unique history and our country’s beginnings "
Let's celebrate this Semiquincentennial Independence Day together in Green Springs, Ohio!
*The exact date the bell was cast is unknown at this time as it is not embossed on the bell or yoke. The bell is embossed "Cinci Bell Co” and may have hung in the church when it was first built on the Zimmerman farm 2 miles northeast of town dedicated in 1868. The original church was moved and rededicated here on Kansas Street in 1894.
