Banned Books week is October 5-11 and although we ALWAYS promote banned books, we give them an extra focus during this week set aside to raise awareness about accessiblity to books being given to those for whom the books are recommended.
You'll find a special display of banned books in the store from October 6-11, and on Saturday, October 11 we invite anyone who'd like to bring (or buy!) a banned book to read silently in or in front of the store to do so. We will have folding chairs available (or one of our comfy seats if you get here early enough!), but you're also welcome to bring a camp chair of your own to set up outside. You can also bring a sign, wear a shirt, or prepare a spiel so that anyone who is curious about what you're doing can be informed!
In addition, we would love to donate some banned books, so for every 10 banned books bought by our customers on October 11, we will donate one to one of our local school libraries or place them in our Main Street Little Free Library! See link on this event to place your order ahead of time or you can always purchase a banned book (these or any other title) in the store.
