Lessons (and Stories) from a Life of Mountaineering – An Evening with Lydia Bradey
Join us for a special evening with legendary New Zealand mountaineer Lydia Bradey as she presents Lessons (and Stories) from a Life of Mountaineering.
Lydia is one of Aotearoa’s most accomplished climbers. In 1988, she became the first woman in the world to climb Mount Everest without supplemental oxygen, and has gone on to establish an extraordinary climbing career, taking her from the big walls of Yosemite to first ascents in Pakistan, China and Antarctica, as well as six ascents of Everest.
This event also marks a special occasion for the Canterbury Mountaineering Club as Lydia is presented with the CMC Mountaineer of the Year Award, awarded retrospectively in recognition of her outstanding lifetime achievements in the mountains. Lydia also holds a unique place in the club’s history, having been the second woman to join CMC after the club opened its membership to women in the late 1970s.
Drawing on decades of adventure, Lydia will share stories of challenge, failure and success, lessons and insights, and a few funny moments from a remarkable life in the mountains
