Rebekah Atkinson is an active performer on the Gulf Coast who is passionate about sharing joy and meeting people’s needs through meaningful music that speaks to the heart! Chamber music concerts are one of her favorite means of reaching this goal and for many years she worked closely with her brother Matthew (violinist) as the Atkinson Duo, reaching out to the community, giving concerts around the southeast and recording at the NPR studio in Houston, TX.
Rebekah is also very active playing with symphony orchestras. Currently she is principal harpist for Sinfonia Gulf Coast (Destin), Gulf Coast Symphony (Gulfport) and the Meridian Symphony, second harpist at Pensacola Symphony and regularly substitutes with the Tuscaloosa Symphony and the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (New Orleans). She has also appeared as a soloist with the Magnolia Chamber Orchestra performing the Debussy Dances and with the Elsewhen Orchestra in Gabriel Pierne’s Concertstuck.
Rebekah grew up in a large musical family where all the siblings played an instrument and her parents emphasized the importance of sharing talents with others. She began her musical training on the piano with her mother at an early age, but later focused most of her formal and college studies on the harp. While Rebekah was fortunate to study with many outstanding artists, the biggest influences on her musical development were harpists Catherine Anderson, Judy Sullivan Hicks and Maria Luisa Rayan. Rebekah considers it a true blessing that her work involves sharing what she loves with others!
