Part of education is thinking about death, and that is central to leading a meaningful life. Leland: A Stanford Story covers the grand (yet short) life of Leland Stanford Jr. and meditates on what it means to be a part of a school that only exists because of the death of a child. Directed by Dan Edelstein, the William H. Bonsall Professor of French and Director of the COLLEGE (first-year requirement) program, and Henry Segal, a history major in the class of 2026, this approximately 40-minute documentary premiered in 2024. The film screening will be followed by a discussion with Edelstein and Segal and a reception.
