Left Foot Right – Contemporary Dance Workshop with Hrishikesh Pawar

Left Foot Right is a contemporary dance workshop designed by acclaimed Kathak and contemporary dancer Hrishikesh Pawar, created especially for Indian classical dancers who wish to explore movement from a fresh perspective.

The workshop introduces participants to contemporary dance techniques with a focus on body awareness, improvisation, floor work, spatial dynamics, and movement exploration. Through these practices, dancers are encouraged to discover a new movement vocabulary and expand their physical and creative possibilities.

Keeping the needs of classical dancers in mind, Left Foot Right aims to enhance versatility by helping participants integrate contemporary approaches with their existing classical training. The workshop supports the development of strength, flexibility, endurance, and coordination while encouraging greater freedom of expression, spontaneity, and artistic individuality.

By engaging with contemporary movement principles, dancers can enrich their performance practice, discover new choreographic possibilities, and deepen their understanding of the body as an expressive instrument.

The workshop will be facilitated by Hrishikesh Pawar (b. 1983, Pune, India), one of the leading voices in Indian contemporary dance and the Artistic Director of the Centre of Contemporary Dance, Pune. Trained in Kathak under Pt. Rohini Bhate and continuing under Guru Neelima Adhye, Hrishikesh's artistic language bridges the rigor of Indian classical dance with contemporary movement practices.

His work as a performer and choreographer has been presented at renowned international platforms including Dokumenta (Kassel), Kochi Biennale, Fringe Festival (Canada), Healing Arts Conference by Charité Berlin, Akademie der Künste Berlin, and the World Human Forum (Athens). He is a recipient of the Sancheti Silent Hero Award 2021 and the Lucy Bowen Award by the Mark Morris Dance Group's Dance for PD® programme.
