Join us for a captivating evening as forensic anthropologist Dr. Brian Pierson pulls back the curtain on how faces are reconstructed from skulls to help identify the dead.
Dr. Pierson will explain the science and art behind facial reconstruction: what investigators hope to achieve, the limitations of the process, and the real-world challenges experts face. He’ll discuss how forensic anthropologists collaborate with law enforcement, juries, judges, and lawyers, and how popular TV shows and films have both helped and distorted public understanding of this work.
Dr. Brian Pierson has been a professor at Pierce College since 2013. He earned his BA in Anthropology from UCLA, his MA and PhD in Physical Anthropology from Tulane University, and has consulted on active forensic cases for agencies in California and Louisiana. He has created forensic and paleoanthropological facial reproductions for museums and publications in the United States and Europe and is an active member of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.
