🧠Lecture: "What Sea Slugs and Octopi Can Teach Us About Human Brains"
🎤 Speaker: Neuroscientist, Dr. Viral Mistry
Dive into the strange and fascinating world of molluscan brains and discover how sea slugs, squids, and octopi have unlocked some of the biggest mysteries of our own minds. Neuroscience has exploded in recent decades, revealing how neurons work together to create our thoughts, memories, and behaviors—but many of these breakthroughs started in the lab with unlikely ocean creatures.
In this engaging talk, neuroscientist Dr. Viral Mistry will trace the history of mollusk-based neuroscience and highlight cutting-edge research happening around the world today. You’ll learn how these animals’ nervous systems help scientists uncover the principles that govern human learning, memory, and perception.
Dr. Mistry studies learning and memory at Rosalind Franklin University and teaches introductory neuroscience at Dominican University. Beyond the lab and classroom, he is a passionate advocate for science communication, social justice, and education.
