Brick of Chicago Tour with MAPSS Alumni Association

Join us on after work on Monday, June 22 for a FREE Brick of Chicago guided walking tour in Wicker Park. The tour starts at 6pm. Please plan to arrive at the meeting point by 5:45pm.
Your MAPSS alumni event volunteers will be in touch prior to the event with reminders and to share contact information for the meetup. Affiliates of all UChicago SSD MA programs are welcome to participate!

When wealthy 19th century German brewers needed a place to build, they picked Wicker Park, filling its leafy streets with towering red brick mansions. Since then, the neighborhood has lived many lives: a hotbed of labor unrest, a thriving Polish community that rivaled Warsaw, a forgotten hinterland, a base of Puerto Rican activism, a home to galleries and punks, and the Next Lincoln Park (or the opposite of Lincoln Park, depending on who you ask). Join Brick of Chicago to see this history in bricks and buildings. Along the way, you'll learn how Chicago became the brick capital of the world, and how technological innovation turned the humble building brick into The Perfect Brick, a work of art all its own.

The tour will run, rain or shine (barring extreme weather). Be prepared to walk, and bring a water bottle, sunscreen, and maybe a trusty hat!
