📚 Lecture: "Victorian Oddities: Séances, Corsets, and Corpses"

🎤 Speaker: JR Pepper

Join us for an intriguing evening with JR Pepper as we explore the peculiar world of Victorian culture. The Victorians are often branded as strange and unsettling—why is that? This fascinating talk will delve into their elaborate mourning fashions, death-obsessed taxidermy, eerie photography, and fashionable conversations with the spirit world, revealing how they became masters of the macabre.

JR Pepper is an adjunct professor of art history at CUNY Brooklyn College and a freelance lecturer, photographer, and self-described "professional eccentric." With both a BA and an MA in art history specializing in Surrealism and spirit photography, her artwork has been featured in various gallery shows and publications, including Haunted America: FAQ, Vice.com, and Musee Magazine. An engaging speaker, she regularly lectures at The Brooklyn Brainery, The Odd Salon, and The Dead Ladies Show. Currently, she serves as a digital imaging specialist at The Burns Archive and works as a tour guide at Green-Wood Cemetery. JR's book, Buried Boston: America's Revolutionary Necropolis, is set to release on Halloween 2024, with her second publication on New Orleans cemeteries following in 2026.

Don’t miss this captivating exploration of the oddities that defined an era!
