🧠Lecture: "The Curious & Contradictory Human-Animal Bond"
🎤 Speaker: Dr. Tara Bahl
From ancient cave paintings of bison and horses to Insta-famous pets like @jiffpom with millions of followers, humans have always been fascinated by animals. Yet our relationships with them are often complex, even contradictory.
Join us as Dr. Tara Bahl uses the emerging interdisciplinary field of Anthrozoology to explore how and why we connect with animals in such varied ways—loving some, fearing others, consuming many, and elevating a few to celebrity status. By examining these paradoxes, we gain deeper insight into ourselves, our values, and the multiple identities we navigate in the modern world.
Dr. Bahl is an Associate Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies at Guttman Community College (City University of New York), where she teaches social science courses. Her current research focuses on nature-based learning in higher education and on teaching Anthrozoology with and for non-majors.
