🧠 Lecture: "Friendship Explored: From Being Besties to Crashing Out"
🎤 Speaker: Dr. Megan Dowd
Friendship shapes our lives as much as romance or family—but without the clear scripts, labels, or rules. What happens when expectations shift, boundaries blur, or someone wants “more” while the other doesn’t? And what about when friends add sex to the mix and call it “no big deal”?
In this engaging talk, communication scholar Dr. Megan Dowd examines friendship through the lens of how we actually talk, text, and interact every day. Using friends-with-benefits relationships as a central case study, she explores what happens when the usual rules of friendship are stretched by sex, ambiguity, and mixed feelings—and why “keeping it casual” is often anything but simple.
Dr. Dowd spent over a decade as a college professor teaching Interpersonal Communication, The Dark Side of Communication, and Family Communication at Hamilton College, the University of Rhode Island, and Ohio University. Her research dives into secrecy, deception, jealousy, infidelity, and how everyday communication shapes our closest bonds.
