The year 2025 marks the centennial birthday celebration of Malcolm X. In life, Malcolm X became many things to many people seeking revolutionary change in the spirit of social justice. However, to many of the general public, Malcolm X over the past generations since his death, has been reduced to mere slogans, and symbols of radicalism that fail to holistically reflect his humanity and personal character. The public deserves to know more about Malcolm X and the defining aspects of his life that undergird his career and his eventual impact on society, activists, scholars, and youth. Thus, this lecture provides an in-depth analysis and overview of Malcolm X that is unknown to many.

Dr. Richard D. Benson II is an Associate Professor of the Black Radical Tradition in Education in the Department of Educational Foundations, Organizations, and Policy at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Benson received his PhD in Educational Policy Studies specializing in History of Education from the University of Illinois. As a historian of education, Benson specializes in the Black Freedom Movement, the Black Radical Tradition, and transnational social movements.
