Wednesday, May 20, 2026, 6:30pm - South Portland Historical Society will hold its annual meeting and lecture. After a brief business meeting, we'll enjoy a lecture by Seth Goldstein: "Shipwrecks of Casco Bay." Seth will share tales of harrowing rescues and tragic losses in and around Casco Bay. In addition to hearing about the bay’s famous shipwrecks, such as the Annie C. Maguire and the Bohemian, audience members will learn about some of the region’s lesser-known wrecks and the circumstances surrounding them. You’ll be fascinated by Seth’s recounting of horrific storms and lives lost to the sea as well as stories of inspiring rescues and the brave men that conducted them.
Admission to the lecture is free for current members; non-members may attend with a $20 donation. Memberships can be renewed prior to the annual meeting; if you would like to renew your membership at the door, please plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the meeting so that we can process your membership. Lecture will be held in the Casco Bay Room of the South Portland Community Center, 21 Nelson Road.
This lecture series is sponsored by SMRT Architects and Engineers, Portland, Maine.
