About this Event

A look at how dance rhythms and styles shaped much of Bach's music. We will listen to cantatas, passions, and instrumental music with an ear toward understanding dance forms embedded in each.

David Rhyne, DMA, is SC Bach's Artistic Director. He has held teaching positions at the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities and at Furman University. David is the founding director of Greenville Early Music, and has over 30 years of experience in sacred music. His research into the music of Bach has included grants to study at the Oregon Bach Festival and the Leipzig Bachfest. Choirs under David's leadership have performed throughout the U.S. and Europe. Notable performances have included Schonbrunn Palace, Vienna; St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City; and St. Thomas Church, Leipzig.
