About this Event
In this lecture, we will explore the rich history and cultural significance of Chinese tea, taking you on a journey through its origins. From mythical legends to archaeological roots in southwestern China, we will examine how tea evolved from a soup to a beloved beverage, and delve into how the "Sage of Tea," Lu Yu, transformed tea culture through his work, The Classic of Tea. The lecture will also cover the pinnacle of tea culture during the Song Dynasty, the minimalist tea practices of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the diverse range of modern teas and their unique characteristics, as well as the significance and complexity of tea ceremonies.
The event will conclude with a live Gongfu tea demonstration by Kevin Ge from 7s Art, followed by a tea tasting session and open Q&A. Whether you are a tea enthusiast or simply curious about Chinese culture, this event promises an engaging cultural experience. Presented in Chinese, this program will be held in-person with the option to join virtually.
